BUSTS – MONUMENTS

ALEKSA ŠANTIĆ bust (1859.-1924.), a poet and a writer who dedicated one of most beautiful verses to Boka and Herceg Novi. It is located on the HERCEG STJEPAN Square, and it was built by the academic sculptor Marjan KOCKOVIĆ from Dubrovnik.


MARKO CAR bust (1859.-1953.), a writer who was born, has lived and passed away in Herceg Novi. It is located in the street bearing his name (in the Old city) and it is the work of sculptor Petar Palavićini.


SIMO MATAVULJ bust (1852.-1908.), a writer who spent a part of his life in this city. It is located in the street bearing his name (steps leading to the Summer theater »KANLI KULA«), and it is the work of the famous Herceg Novi painter and sculptor Vojo STANIĆ.


MARKO MILJANOV bust (1833.-1901.),a writer, hero and a duke, who lived and passed away in Herceg Novi. It is located in the center of the city, in the park of the former hotel »Boka« and is the work of the academic sculptor Nebojša MITRIĆ from Belgrade.


BRANKO ĆOPIĆ bust (1924.-1984.), a writer, who many times, mainly in winter, used to come and live in Herceg Novi. It is located at the beginning of the Partizanski put street, and it is the work of sculptor Nebojša MITRIĆ from Belgrade.


NIKOLA ĐURKOVIĆ bust (1908.-1943.), a national hero and “prvoborac” (earliest partisan). It is located in the park, which bears his name, between the Herceg Novi Post Office and the »PARK« Hall. It is the work of sculptor Luka TOMANOVIĆ from Herceg Novi.


VUK STEFANOVIĆ KARADŽIĆ bust (1786.-1872.), and PRINCE-BISHOP NJEGOŠ busts are located within the complex of the Savina Monastery and are the work of Herceg Novi sculptors, Srđan KOVAČEVIĆ and Đorđe ANGELOVSKI.


PETAR II PETROVIĆ NJEGOŠ bust (1821.-1853.), the prince-bishop and ruler of Montenegro. It is located in front of the church of Sv. Spasa (St. Salvation) in Topla, where he used to study, and it is the work of sculptor Risto ĐUROVIĆ.


MIHAJLO LALIĆ bust (1914.-1992.), a writer who spent many years in Herceg Novi. It is located in IGALO, in the park in front of the Civic Center, and it is the work of sculptor Vladan AŠANIN from Niš.


DESANKA MAKSIMOVIĆ bust (1899.-1993.), a writer, who used to spend almost every winter in Igalo. It is located in the same park and it is the work of sculptor Nikola KOSIĆ from Herceg Novi. (The park which has two previously mentioned busts bears the name of ILIJA ZEKOVIĆ, a famous enthusiast and a tourist worker from Igalo, whose long-standing work helped the rearranging of the park and the building of the two busts).


IVO ANDRIĆ bust (1892. - 1975.), a writer, the Nobel prize winner. It is located in the hotel »Centar« park, right under the house where he lived temporarily with his wife. It is the work of the academic sculptor Nikola Janković.


On a dominant observation deck, at the very beginning of SAVINSKA DUBRAVA, there is a »BEZMETKOVIĆ« monument to national liberation soldiers who died during 1941-1945, with a commemorative crypt, work by Luka TOMANOVIĆ, a sculptor from Herceg Novi.


A Monument to patriots (near the Savina Monastery), who were shot during the World War I in the Bay of Kotor between 1914 and 1916, shaped as a pyramid and with an inscription of verses by Petar Petrović Njegoš:
