Beside much local Mediterranean flora, our city encompasses over 250 types of different exotic plants originating from all continents, which adorns the city with special attractiveness.
Exotic plants such as mimosa, agave, cycads, magnolia, eucalyptus,
araucaria have successfully gotten accustomed to our region and, with the local vegetation, they make up a unique asset to the city.
MIMOSA (Acacia dealbata) is a wintergreen, ligneous plant originating from Australia, which can grow up to 10 meters. It has double-feathered leaves and golden clustery flowers with a specific scent. It blossoms in the period from January to March.
CAMELIA (Camellia japonica – from the tea family)family) is a decorative,
wintergreen, bush-like plant originating from Japan and China. Its flower is round and can be white, red or pink with different shades. Camellias blossom from December to April.
OLEANDER (Nerium oleander) oleander) is a wintergreen, decorative plant which grows as a bush or a small tree. It can grow from 2 to 4 meters and has multifarious flowers, which are developed
from June to August.
MAGNOLIA (Magnolia grandiflora - from the family of magnolias) is a plant which originates from North America and can reach 12 meters.
BOUGAINVILLEA (Bougenvillea sanderiana - locally called bogumila) is one of the most beautiful climbers covering South facades and walls in our city. It originates from Brazil
and Central America, and it was brought here from the French Riviera.
EUCALYPTUS GLOBALUS - is a wintergreen plant of Australian
origin, which normally grows over 100m, thus being ranked among the tallest plants in the world.
ARAUCARIA EXCELSA - originates from the Norfolk island in the Pacific Ocean and is a wintergreen plant, with a whorl of branches. It can grow over 70m.
AUCUBA JAPONICA - is a wintergreen bush originating from Japan with a very decorative leathery, shiny leaves of green or golden yellow color.
